Chapter 19

Doesn’t Feel Right

Katsuki sighed as he stared forward at the curtain that was wrapped around his hospital bed to provide him privacy. He was sitting at the side of his bed with his legs resting on the floor, gown pulled open all the way so his ass was on full display. He kept his attitude at bay as the nurse examined one of the slashes that ran along one of his sides.

At this point he was mostly used to this kind of treatment. He had no reason to be irritated at the hospital staff when there was no other way to do their job. Yet, that didn’t stop him from grinding his teeth at the audacity someone had to design clothing like this. It was absolutely absurd and a bit humiliating.

“Mr. Bakugo?” The nurse spoke. Her voice was soft and gentle as she looked up to him with sparkly pink eyes. Katsuki grunted in response, not wanting to move at all. “These areas are healing very well.” She spoke, her gloved hand reaching for the small tray of medical stuff. “I would say that these stitches will be dissolved in a few days. Really the only thing to concern yourself with are the wounds on your neck and face.”

The girl kept her tone light, her fingers gentled as she applied a thin strip adhesive over the stitches before pulling the back of the gown closed and tying the strings.

She moved around the bed as she took off her gloves. “The doctor should be in shortly for a final check of your eye. If you have any needs, feel free to hit the call button.”

Katsuki nodded, finally directing his gaze towards her as she cleaned up the tray and pushed it around the curtain. Her delicate form moved gracefully, silver hair pulled up into a messy knot at the base of her neck. Red eyes watched her as she pushed the curtain back toward the wall.

She was a nice woman- a beta- that was new to his care. He usually had the same few nurses that would care for him since they worked the same shifts from week to week. It was nice to see a new face; a newbie who cared about their work and hadn’t gotten annoyed with his consistent attitude yet.

“Well, don’t get too excited. She is still clocked in. Wait till after to ask for her number.” The nurse's eyes widened, no doubt her cheeks turning pink under her face mask. A laugh drew the blonde’s attention. Katsuki rolled his eyes at the other alpha, not in the mood for his over eccentric energy today.

“Shut it, Shitty Hair.” He grumbled as he moved back into the bed. It was still early in the morning, the shift change happening very recently. “Why are you even here again?”

“If you didn’t want me here then why am I your emergency contact? Besides, who else is going to take care of your bitchy ass?” Kirishima grinned, teeth on full display as he leaned forward in his chair. With his hair pulled back into a ponytail it showed off his sharp jawline to create a menacing smile with his sharp teeth on display; though his root had grown about an inch into his red stands.

“Myself, idiot.” Katsuki grunted out with a sneer at his mouth. He distracted himself as he got himself comfortable in his bed.

“Nuhu. You and I both know that won’t fly this time around.” The man said. He gave the blonde a serious look, his eyes narrowing in on him as if to dare him to test him as he continued. “From the paperwork that I had to fill out from the raid, the Commision isn’t too happy with how things played out. I can’t even imagine how mad they are at you and Shinsou.” Kirishima spoke with a big sigh. “Honestly, you need to lay low for a bit and not cause issues for now. Accept my help and enjoy your leave.”

Katsuki groaned in the back of his throat, head falling back onto the pillow in irritation. “I don’t give a fuck about the Commision. They can eat my ass for all I care.”

“Bro, stop.” Kirishima spoke, an edge to his voice.

The bastard had gotten more forward as he got older. He no longer held that happy go lucky attitude like he did back in school. He was still energetic and kind- the big teddy bear that people associated with him, but he was more than able to put people in their place if he felt like it. The dumb alpha was a monster in size, so he usually got his way nowadays because of it.

“Fine!” Katsuki snapped. “But I don’t need you to take care of me. I will be fine.”

Kirishima sighed, his hand coming up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “Common man, I’m trying to keep things easy, but if I have to drag you over to my apartment and tie you to a chair until your eye is healed; I will do it.”

The blonde snorted and replied without much thought, “Kinky. You sure Racoon Eyes will be okay with a third?” Katsuki couldn’t help teasing his friend. It was still a public talking point about the couple- mostly in the tabloids- that they had to be looking for a third. The only option being an omega of course since that is the only way two alphas would want to be together. The absurdity of it had cracked the squad up, making it a running joke that they were all auditioning in hopes to be the third.

Kirishima cracked with a boisterous laugh, his head falling back as his hand landed on his chest. “I’m sure Denki is still in the lead. You know, because of his quirk.”

“You nasty man. Relationships are more than just sex.” Katsuki laughed back.

Kirishima nodded, “And how would you know Kats. That is all you have experience in.”

The blond snapped his jaw in a teasing threat, his lips pulled back into a smile at his friend's burn. It was a good one, one he couldn’t deny being true yet. “Whatever, Shitty Hair. I just want to be with Mina anyway, so watch your back.”

That got his friend riled up. His lips pulled back into a menacing smile and he leaned closer to the blonde. “You’re lucky you are pack because-“

“Good morning gentleman.” A male voice came from the doorway, effectively cutting off the rest of what the red head was going to say. “How are you feeling today Mr. Bakugo?” The man asked.

Katsuki looked at his friend with a smirk as he answered. “Ready to go home.” Kirishima rolled his eyes as he slouched back into his chairs and crossed his arms to get comfy.

The doctor nodded, his eyes looking down to his tablet as he read over the medical notes. “I’m sure that can be easily arranged.”

Katsuki smirked. He liked this doctor, the man still the same as the last time he was in the hospital. He could never remember his name, always having to read his name tag. Dr. Mishinou Tamasun.

“How was the process of weaning you off the drip last night? Any nausea or discomfort?” The man asked as he walked over to the monitor to look at something.

“Na, it was fine.”

Dr. Tamasun nodded again as he scanned a few things. “Great. I will need to go over your discharge care since the injury to your eye is pretty severe. But first, do you have someone who can help you change the bandage twice a day and apply the medicated ointment to the other wounds?”

Katsuki shifted in his bed as he desperately wanted to deny needing one. “Can’t I do it on my own?” He grumbled instead.

The doctor nodded, bringing his full attention to the blonde that was now pouting in bed. “I would like to say that you are capable, but unfortunately this type of care is delicate. We still don’t know how far the damage has gone and exposing your cornea to harsh lighting, or not noticing an infection could cause the damage to worsen. I believe the best way to protect your eye would be to have someone else change the bandages and inspect the areas affected.”

Katsuki nodded, his gaze falling to his lap as he listened to his doctor. At the end of the day his vision was more important than his pride. He really didn’t want anyone to see him like this, having to examine and care for his mangled face… but if it meant the chances of full recovery were higher than he would do it.

“Fine. For how long?” He asked as politely as he could, though the question was forced through his teeth.

“That will be determined with your eye doctor at your next appointment. They will run a few tests and can give you a clearer timeline than I could. As for right now, my estimate is 2 weeks.” Dr. Tamasun offered, before moving back to his tablet.

Katsuki groaned with dread as he sunk further into the bed. “Then tell Shitty Hair what to do, I’m getting a headache.” He gritted out, his mood souring as he closed his eye and turned onto his side in an attempt to ignore his surroundings.

Shinsou walked into the hospital, his current destination being a certain blonde alpha’s room. He had to go home for the night, visiting hours making him leave since he had been discharged. He didn’t mind though, he was filthy since the hospital showers never had enough water pressure for his liking, and the offered soaps dried out his skin.

He had actually slept pretty well during the night. The smell of ginger was still wrapped within the blanket and pillows on his bed. The scent eased him into a deep sleep, one that kept him down until the sun was past the horizon of the mountains.

He b-lined it to the front desk. The omegan girl checked him in, and looked up his information to approve his visit. The process took longer than usual, the girl giving him subtle smiles while batting her eyelashes whenever she looked up at him.

“Mr. Bakugo will be discharged within the hour. I’m sure you are still allowed to go up, or you could stay down here.” She said as she leaned forward until her breasts rested on the desk. “There are plenty of things to do down here while you wait.”

“Thanks.” Shinso nodded, but quickly turned around and walked toward the elevators. He heard a soft whine behind him, but didn’t care to look back at the girl. He didn’t like those types of situations, they made him feel a bit icky and had his gut twisting. He wasn’t sure why he had these reactions when he didn’t have a preference toward first or secondary genders. Maybe it was because it had happened in public? Or it could be because someone hitting on him felt the same as being manipulated. Whatever the reason, it was best to just abandon it all together.

As he walked through the tile floored hallway, he kept his head down and stayed close to one of the walls until he made it to the elevator doors. A habit of his job, keeping himself out of the way and keeping attention off of himself.

Though that wouldn’t have worked with his own Sensei, now would it?

“Hello, problem child.” A low and tired voice greeted from behind him. “On your way to find your sibling?”

“Good guess.” Shinso acknowledged though he didn’t turn to address the graying man. “Why are you here?” He asked while a heavy thumb hit the triangle for the upper levels.

“I’m sure you can hypothesize.” Aizawa said. He stopped shoulder to shoulder with the other man as they waited for the elevator. “But I’ll just tell you, since you are usually wrong. I’m here for my mate. He is in the PICU.”

Shinso hummed with confusion as he turned to give his sensei a look out of the corner of his eyes. “Hizashi? Why would he be there?”

It was a weird place for a lawyer to be since he usually met with the parents at a separate location than in their child’s room. The Aizawa’s didn’t have any pups of their own, so there wouldn’t be any need for him to be there, right?

Aizawa nodded as the elevator dinged, the doors opening in front of them. “You know how he is when kids are involved with anything. He comes and visits a couple days a week.” He said with a gentle smile as he walked into the small box. “He is very maternal for a male beta. The man took one look at that girl from the Ring and couldn’t let her go through her hospital stay alone.”

“That does sound like Hizashi.” Shinso agreed. The loud beta was practically as caring as an omega. That was how he himself had met the Aizawa household. The beta had basically adopted him in UA since he rarely went home to his dead-beat of a dad for any holidays.

“So he is with the pup? How is she?” Shinso asked. His interest now peaked at potential information about the cute little girl. He could only imagine how stressed the poor girl has been being away from Deku.

“Why don’t you come see for yourself?” Aizawa said as the doors to the elevator opened at the level Katsuki was staying on. “Though you can’t go into her room without authorization, you can still see her.”

Shinso nodded, the doors to the elevator closing in front of them. Aizawa quickly swiped a badge on the scanner next to the number pad before it continued its accent further into the hospital. It was quiet after that, neither alpha really having anything to say to one another. They were close in some terms, but not buddy buddy. They were like two house cats that barely acknowledged the other’s existence and were only around each other when food was served.

When the elevator dinged open, Shinso followed behind the salt-n-pepper alpha as he scanned his way through a set of double doors. The hallways were painted a vibrant color, the use of warmer lighting in the hallways providing a comfortable atmosphere amongst the bulky machines and smell of bleach.

As they walked- passing a nursing station with multiple omega and beta nurses writing or softly speaking to one another- a large bulletin board caught Shinso’s eye. It had a colorful border made of rainbow cardboard with a paper sun and clouds at the top. The board was adorned with paper flowers, leaves and water droplets; each one of them having a small picture of a pup and short sentence to the bulky question stretching across the top.

“What are YOU most excited about summer?”

Shinsou paused in his walk, his eyes reading each one. Many of the notes were written in scratchy lettering, barely readable. It was cute to see how many of the pups wanted to swim or ride their bike, a few mentioning a holiday celebration or a vacation.

Yet, what started as a warm feeling in the alpha’s chest slowly dropped and pitted into his stomach. It was obvious by some of the notes that many of the children here wouldn’t be making it till summer. One stating that she wanted to see her dog before she goes, a boy wanting to play with his sibling without his tubes, an older girl wanting to go on a date if her tests came back better, another boy hoping to meet his baby sister.

“It’s heartbreaking when you realize how cruel the world is, but it’s absolutely devastating when it involves pups so young.” Aizawa whispered.

Shinso nodded, not having realized that the other had joined him next to the board. His hands were clasped behind his back, eyes looking over the wobbly handwriting.

“I think this is the reason Hizashi has become obsessed with coming here as often as he does.” The man continued. “So many pups with parents that can’t visit as often as they want. It gets lonely, especially for the ones that know that they won’t be here much longer.”

Shinso let out a shaky sigh, his bottom lip quivering as he closed his eyes. “I didn’t realize-“ he stared before cutting himself off.

“No one really does until it’s shoved in their face. It’s not pleasant to think about, but for some reason my mate can’t stop thinking about it.” He whispered, his own voice growing hoarse before clearing it. “Now, if you can’t reel in that scent we will have to get you scent patches. The kiddos here can be very sensitive to alpha pheromones.”

Shinso nodded before turning away from the board and continuing their way further down one of the hallways.

They walked up to a large window that looked into a room. There were 2 beds, one on either side with different machines with a retractable fabric curtain. The rooms weren’t very big, just enough room for a few additional seats and a small dresser beside the beds.

One bed was stripped bare, obviously not in use at the moment. But the other had a large pink blanket folded over the end of the bed, a stuffed rabbit that was bright green with a purple bow around its neck as it rested against the pillow. The room was neat and clean, like it wasn’t used a lot- probably just for sleeping. The room itself was empty of anyone.

“Hmmm, Hizashi must be with the pup. She likes to go for walks; mentioned a few times that she doesn’t like being alone in small rooms.” Aizawa mumbled to himself. “They could also be in the playroom.”

Shinso waited for the man to come to his conclusion and followed right along. It was interesting that the old man already knew so much about the small girl. It had only been a few days, the pup having to stay here until the state could conclude that all the blood tests and DNA searches had been well looked over.

“How long will she be here? I’m sure she wants to be with Deku.” Shinso whispered. He didn’t know how much of this case was still classified. It could take weeks, if not months if enough people threw hissy fits. It was all about legal procedures and pleasing the higher ups, the whole thing beyond annoying for heroes like Aizawa.

“Mostly likely another week. She will be released into a safe house once everything comes back clear. With Overhaul running wild still, we have to make sure that she isn’t in reachable distance.”

The safe house in reference was usually Aizawa's small house outside the city. Hizashi was known to the inner circle of the Aizawa’s that he would take pups in until they could be relocated back to their families or into an adoption process. Though no one knew the location, the two men kept it a secret from everyone.

Hizashi had too big of a heart to not help out in any way he could. It was a big relief to many heroes that they wouldn’t have to worry too much about the pups that would get wrapped up in a mission.

“And Deku?” He urged again, his suspicion getting tugged with the lack of response to that part of his question.

The two stopped in front of another window, this one much bigger. The room was filled with colorful mats, rugs, and large cubbies of toys. A lego castle was being built on one of the tables, two pups leaning over to continue its construction. A nurse was focused on the two, one of her hands keeping a trach tube out of the way so it wouldn’t get pinched for one of the pups.

“Listen, Hitoshi…” Aizawa sighed next to him, his attention focusing on a blonde man with his hair pulled up into a high bun and a white face mask covering half his face. He was sitting on one of the rugs, leaning over a very short table as he helped a small girl with silver hair color in a coloring book. Her eyes were sparkling with happiness, her smile big as she laughed with the older blonde before she turned her attention to the younger.

”Deku isn’t in a place to be around her. He was violent when he woke up.” Aizawa continued, his voice low but a lot softer than what Shinso would like. “We don’t know his mental stability yet, and thus can’t risk Eri’s safety.”

Shinso’s eyes narrowed, his full attention on the second blonde that was on the other side of the small girl. She was now talking to him, her face now turned away from the window he was looking through. Even with the dark blue mask on the alpha’s face, Shinso would know that man from a mile away. His bright blue eyes danced with delight as he talked, the girl saying something to cause him to laugh.

“I have to speak with one of Deku’s doctors later today. I know you are attached to him… despite protocol I will update you on what I can.” Aizawa spoke. Hitoshi nodded, thankful at the small amount of leniency that was being given. It would have to be enough for now.

“I understand, sir.” Shinso confirmed. “But if I may ask-“

”Kid,” The man interrupted. ”Miro was only given access to visit because she wouldn’t let go of him after the raid. They took a liking to each other, and you know how it is with pups needing a consistent adult to help them regulate and heal. She has chosen him.” Aizawa grunted out. “This is beyond any of our control since this is for medical recovery. No one wants the Number One in a child’s ward every day. It will draw too much attention and keep him away from his job, but there is nothing that can be done right now.”

Shinso grumbled an affirming reply, his eyes narrowed in on the pro hero that sat at the table that was far too small for him. He looked silly, sitting with his legs squeezed under the wood, his fingers too big to hold the broken crayon efficiently. Shinso just hoped that the pup was laughing at him instead along with the stupid alpha.

After a few seconds, he knew that he needed to leave before his alpha became too irate to keep contained. It was one thing to accept the circumstances, but a whole nother thing to act civilly about it.

“Thanks for letting me see her, it will relieve a lot of stress for both Bakugo and I. It's been a headache to get simple updates about her and Deku.” He muttered, forcing his attention onto the other alpha beside him.

“Well, that is your own fault honestly.” Aizawa scoffed, a small smile pulling at his lips. “If you two would stick to the plan and not act like brainless alpha’s I’m sure it wouldn’t have been so hard.”

Shinso rolled his eyes, groaning in the back of his throat as he twisted away from the man and walked the way they had come. “Whatever, see ya later grandpa.” He waved over his shoulder, cracking a small laugh when he heard the warning growl behind him.

“Don’t think you are now old enough to talk to me like that, ya damn pup!” Aizawa practically hissed out. A light smack landed on Shinso’s shoulder before a foot quickly stuck in front of him, causing him to trip and almost fall.

“God, and you say I’m a pup? You act like a kindergartener.” Shinso growled back as he whipped his head to the other. “No wonder Hizashi spends all his time here.”

Aizawa narrowed his eyes, though there wasn’t much heat behind his stare as he escorted the alpha back toward the double doors. “Don’t ask to come back in here, it’s an absolute no.”

”Fine, Hizashi likes me more anyway.” He smiled, a devious look in his eye as he leaned his back onto the door and waited for the nurse to buzz him out the locked door. “I’m sure he will give me access if I come for dinner tonight.”

“Don’t use my mate against me, ya twerp.” The older alpha groaned out, his demeanor falling slightly as he realized how much truth the other had stated. “God, you are a spawn of the devil. Get out!”

Aizawa lifted his leg, kicking lightly at Shinou’s stomach as the buzz to the door indicated it was unlocked. He allowed his weight to open the door, punching the old man’s shoe with a partial laugh before giving him the middle finger. “See ya at dinner.

It only took a couple minutes before Shinou was in front of Katsuki’s hospital room. He could see Kirishima in one of the chairs just to the side of the bed, his eyes focused on a pamphlet and a stack of papers in his lap.

The blonde wasn’t in the bed and from the doorway, Shinsou couldn’t see anywhere he would be. He knocked gently on the metal frame, catching the redhead’s attention before walking in and sitting in the open chair next to him.

Kirishima gave him a large smile, patting him on the leg in hello. “Hey man, how are you feeling?”

”Fine, I guess. Would be better if my blood test would come back so my arm wasn’t all wrapped up.” He sighed out. It had been a bit since he had talked to the other alpha. With his night patrols, it was practically impossible to go to any of the random meet ups his graduating class held.

“You sound like Kat. Idiot’s being just as whiny with it as you.” Kirishima laughed, “God, it’s going to be a long 2 weeks.”

”You are going to be his nurse, huh?” Shinso chuckled. He could only imagine how bratty Katsuki would be.

“Ya, but it’s okay. He’s not as hard to deal with as you might think.” The redhead said his smile went soft before he winced slightly. “Well, as long as he is fed and gets enough sleep. Then it’s easy.”

Shinso nodded as he quickly understood the situation. “You make him sound like a pup. Do you have to change him too?”

”In this case? No, but I will definitely have to help bathe him.” Kirishima laughed as he slumped back into his chair. “Guess this will be Mina and I’s test run to see if we can handle a pup of our own.

A door behind them opened before a wet hand towel collided with the back of Kirishima’s head. “You jackasses better not be talking about me. I don’t need anyone’s help, especially in the shower.” Katsuki yelled, his anger just as prominent as ever.

Shinou leaned forward, trying to hide his smile from the blonde’s view. ”Damn, his aim is still on point with only one eye. You two are screwed.”

“Fuck, what are we going to do? What if he starts throwing his meds?” Kirishima whispered back, his laugh slipping past his attempts at containing it. “Imagine the bedtime tantrums.”

”I’ll murder the both of you!” Katsuki yelled, small sparks lighting up to intimidate the both of them.

“No no, Kats. Can’t use your quirk until your side is healed.” Kirishima said while jumping up out of his seat and walking toward the angry alpha. The taller alpha gave him an assessing stare, “I’ll put the quirk cuffs on you as a time-out if you don’t listen.”

Shino tried to hold back his laugh, a snort wiggling free before it burst through. The face that Katsuki gave was one he would never forget. He wished he would have taken a picture of that scrunched nose and one glaring eye. It was adorable, and nothing that fit the aesthetic of Katsuki Bakugo.

“Whatever, y’all are fucking twats.” Katsuki grumbled as he walked to his bed. He was dressed in his street clothes now, a baggy sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his head, partially concealing the bandages draped around half his face. He rummaged around in the nightstand, grabbing a couple pair of disposable chopsticks from the drawer and shoving them into his sweatpant pocket. He turned, eye catching with Shinso as he moved to lay down.

“What, don’t wanna do dishes when I get home. Might as well get a freebie.” He said before flopping down on the bed, the ends of the chopsticks sticking out of his pocket.

“You’re not going home, bro. Mina should be here any minute.” Kirishima grumbled, his attention back on the paperwork again. Shino leaned over and snuck a peak, reading over the bulletpoints at the top.

”Is this for cleaning his wounds?” Shinso asked with curiosity. Kirishima nodded, not really giving the alpha any more attention as he flipped to the next page.

“Apparently I can’t clean it alone…” Katsuki sighed. He had a frown on his face, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared at the ceiling.

”I’m sure it will go faster with someone else doing it.” Shinso whispered, reaching out to pat the man’s upper arm. “It won’t waste as much time changing the bandages if you have someone else do it.”

Katsuki huffed out a breath, but nodded after a moment and his shoulders relaxed. Shinsou smiled a little, his alpha happy that he could give a tiny bit of help to the other.

The room fell into silence after that, Katsuki closing his eyes and Kirishima reading. Shinso leaned back into his chair, getting himself comfortable as he waited with the other two. Though it wasn’t for much longer.

All three turned their attention to the entryway of the room as a couple nocks echoed through the room. A tall man in blue scrubs walked in with a tablet in his hand.

“Well, Bakugo. It’s time to get ya out of here. I can’t have you sticking around for no reason, I have a surgery that I need to get to.” The man said with a smile on his face, though his mask covered it pretty well.

“About fucking time.” Katsuki said, his voice somewhat close to a cheer as it would probably ever be. The man laughed, no doubt thinking the alpha’s mood was funny, before he noticed Shinso’s presence and his eyes widened with recognition.

“Oh, since you are both here I can update you now. There was a mixup in the lab and your blood samples didn’t get tested like requested. I resubmitted the forms, so hopefully you two will get a call within the next 72 hours with the result.” The doc said, a small frown on his face.

”Just great.” Katsuki grumbled.

”No problem,” Kirishima quickly said before the blonde could begin shouting. “I’m sure you guys are running around here like crazy. Don’t worry about it, just glad the samples didn’t get lost.”

Kirishima was a godsend, no way Shinso would have acted so quickly with Katsuki’s temper rising with every minute he was still here.

“Thank you, Mr. Kirishima. If you have any questions or concerns I have my number in the care instructions. Though I will say this before you go, Bakugo, if you start experiencing migraines at all, give me a call. We need to keep our focus on getting that eye heal.” The doctor finished, his voice stern as he gave Katsuki a look.

”Ya, ya. I got ya.” The blonde agreed without any resistance. “Not going to fuck around with this. I need my eye back ASAP.”

“Good. Well gentleman, make sure to check out at the front desk. Drive safe.” The man said before walking back out the door.

”Thanks doc.” Kirishima said at the last minute before standing up and stretching out his limbs. “Alright, let's get going. I’m starving.”

”When are you not?” Katsuki said under his breath as he pushed his way around them and out the door.

Kirishima just shook his head, and gathered up the two bags that were sitting on the floor next to him. “Do you have anyone to help you until your tests come back?” He asked, his question directed at the dark hair alpha.

”Eh, I’ll probably crash with the Aizawas if I need to.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulder. “I’m not too injured, really just this sling and the concussion that I am recovering from. I’m not too worried.”

Kirishima nodded, “Well, feel free to come over to my place. I’m sure Kats will get lonely with Mina and I out at work. We tried to alternate our schedule but we couldn’t get the entire 2 weeks figured out. It would be nice to know that someone is with him when we are gone.”

”I won’t get lonely!” - ”Ya, just let me know.” Shinou replied, both of them ignoring the yells coming from down the hall. -“I don’t need a fucking babysitter!” - “With both of us on leave it will be a boring few weeks until all of this blows over. It will be nice to at least have someone to talk with.”

”I don’t want to talk to you!” - “Ya I get it. When I had that back injury last year, I thought I would die of boredom when Mina was on patrol.” Kirishima groaned. “It was nice the first few days, but man, I thought I was going to go insane after that.”

”You ARE insane, Shitty Hair!” - “Damn, you have my number right?” Shinso questioned, pulling his own phone from his pocket.

”Don’t give him your number!” - “ Ya, got it the last time we went out drinking.” Kirishima nodded as he smiled widely at the infuriated blond that was waiting by the elevator. “I’ll message you tonight with what day we will be out on patrol, and I’ll make sure the door is unlocked for you to come over.”

”UHHHHH, you two are the worst!” - “Perfect.” Shinso smiled, his attention moving to the grumpy blond as they stopped to wait for the elevator. “Don’t worry Katsuki, it will be fun. Just you and me.” He teased with a smile.

”That is what I am angry about.” The blonde alpha groaned as the elevator door opened. He was the first one inside, claiming the back corner and leaning against it.

Aizawa stared through the small, glass window on the thick wood door in front of him. He was just shy of being angry, but his alpha was becoming increasingly more uncomfortable with the lack of what had transpired against his authorization in just the handful of hours he had been away.

He hated bureaucratic nonsense, especially when bringing the Hero Commision into it. They trampled over anyone and anything to get what they wanted; just like they had before the war and would no doubt continue to do forever. Nothing had really changed in the relationship between heroes and the Commision, especially in cases like this.

Dark eyes watch quietly, knowing full well that the omega locked behind the door knew he was there. It was sad, honestly. His green hair was still dirty and covered in blood even after 3 days of being in the hospital. He was huddled in the middle of the stripped bed, his arms wrapped up around himself. His face rested on his knees, body turned slightly away from the doorway, but those hooded eyes flickered to the door occasionally.

“Why hasn’t he been allowed to get washed?” Aizawa asked in an irritated voice. He had made it clear when he left last night that Deku needed to be cleaned up. He couldn’t possibly allow to be this filthy with all his open wounds, and how could anyone be expected to wear clean clothes while still covering head to toe in filth. It was outrageous and completely unsanitary for treating his injuries.

“Yes, that’s something we couldn’t do.” A male doctor replied, his hands shaking a bit. Aizawa must be known around here for the way this stumpy doctor was shying away from the hero. No doctor with experience would cower when at their own job. “It wasn’t signed off by the state-“

”The Commission has to sign off on a god-damn sponge bath.” Aizawa practically yelled, his temper was seething beyond what he was typically known for. That in itself a warning to anyone that knew that he was close to crossing a line he rarely got close to.

“Umm, yes…. B-but with you here we can override it in the system with your signature.” The doctor replied, a small smile on his face.

The alpha sighed, two fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to calm himself down. Why hadn’t they told him this last night?! It wasn’t the doctor's fault- though who else would have told him- no, it really wasn’t. Even a doctor wasn't in full control of practicing their own medicine. They too had to jump through stupid hoops just so they could get the bare minimum done. “Bring me what I need to sign.”

The doctor bowed slightly before turning and walking down the hallway. This was all so annoying and far too much for what was needed. Honestly, was it really this hard to get authorization for the bare minimum in terms of patient care. It shouldn’t be this difficult to get this done- did Aizawa have to pull someone’s teeth out before he was listened to?

At least psych wards had updated some of their standard-of-treatment toward feral omegas in the past decade. Though even that was barely a win. Instead of a straight jacket, Deku was in white pajamas; the quality notably soft and thick even from the distance of the small window. It was the only thing that could bring some form of comfort to the otherwise empty room. The fabric slippers were discarded on the floor beside the bed, barely touched besides the time Deku had ripped them off and put them gently on the ground.

It all was a depressing sight, an omega in heat with no nest or comfort items. No one to help soothe their stress and help them through the confusion. Really, what were these doctors thinking? A single blanket at this point would help more than nothing.

At least Deku wasn’t in pain. His cocktail of medications included a wide range of different pain management and antidepressants. All in hopes to keep him from a drop, it seemed to be working, kind of.

The omega hadn’t moved from his spot in the few hours that Aizawa had been away. Dark rings were under his eyes as he refrained from sleeping, the layer of blood and grime no doubt not helping in his comfort. Those large, green eyes were dilating wider- almost back to the normal size. No doubt his feral state no longer was able to hold as much control over the omega. Though that wasn’t what was concerning Aizawa today.

The alpha had gotten a medical update sent to him not long after he had departed from Shinso. The three emails each had their own report, respectively on the omega, Shinso and Bakugo. The reports weren't what he had expected, not even close.

He had known that Deku had attacked hospital staff after being awake for a couple hours in the psych ward after his first sedation, that being the second incident within the first 6 hours of his arrival at the hospital.

They had placed Deku in an empty room, nothing there for him to use to harm himself or staff. The bed was reduced to bare bones and the only lighting was a small recessed bulb that could only be controlled from the outside of the door. It was a room designed for volatile individuals; alpha, omega and beta alike.

Yet, from the moment the omega had awoken in there, he had curled into a ball and refused to acknowledge anything around him. The medications shouldn’t have influenced his heat to this degree, they were the basic rounds; antibiotics and painkillers with something to keep him calm and less likely to react.

This is what was troubling Aizawa. His temperament was off, his reactive behavior slow and practically non-existent. It was the opposite of what the doctors had expected, but the doctors didn’t think it was concerning. Though Aizawa wasn’t sold on their reasoning, especially when hours after the medication should have worn off Deku was still in the same state as before.

“Sir, I have the paperwork for you to sign.” The doctor said, grabbing Aizawa’s attention. “He will need to be restrained for the nurse's protection, but that shouldn’t be too much trouble.”

“Then why does he need the restraints?” The alpha retorted, his eyes scanning over the documents.

“It’s protocol sir-“ He was quickly cut off and given a dark glare from the alpha. “The protocols don’t match the situation that is happening in that room.”

“I understand why you would think that, but I can assure you that we know what the situation is.” The man said, his voice becoming a bit annoyed. Beady eyes glared up at Aizawa through thick glasses.

”Do you? Because I see an omega that isn’t doing okay, it seems he is dropping to me and for some reason-” Aizawa huffed with a shake of his head. “That require restraints?”

Without another word, the alpha pulled out his phone. When the doctor tried to say something, Aizawa was quick to cut him off with a sharp look and a growl. When the other line picked up, he was quick to turn his attention.

”Hey, are you comfortable with helping me with the omega on file?” He asked, his tone smooth and soft. The doctor waited, shocked that the man could switch so quickly in temperaments.

”Thanks, as soon as you are here I will update you on what isn’t in the medical update.” Aizawa concluded before hanging up his cell. “Don’t worry about your stupid protocol, I am overriding it and will be taking care of Deku in the ways that I think will be best.”

The doctor’s face screwed up in confusion. “Please sir, there is no reason for you to take such drastic measures. I can’t say that the State will be too happy with it.”

“Oh, don’t you worry about them. My mate is a lawyer and has kept those bastards on their toes for years. They know he doesn’t cut corners and does everything by the laws and regulations in place. Because Deku’s parent hasn’t been found, he can put someone that is intimate with his case to become his head of attorney in the meantime. So shoo shoo, and send someone else to help Deku with bathing.”

The smile that had grown on the alpha’s face was absolutely terrifying. There was nothing for the doctor to do since the alpha hadn’t signed the documentation, so really he had no reason to stick around.

It took two hours before the short Doctor returned with a nurse. Aizawa’s inisial anger turned to curiosity as they approached. The nurse was an omega by the small amount of turmeric that settled around her. She had black hair pulled up into twin messy buns on the top of her head. Her face half covered with a mask, but it was her piercing gold eyes that caught the alpha’s attention.

Many people had ‘unusual’ eyes, either the color or iris standing out far past what would be considered normal during the time before quirks. Yet, in this age, it was almost unexpected to see a traditional eye. Genetics had quickly shifted the standard for what was considered a basic trait, now making them easy to ignore.

But this girl's eyes were fascinating. They were slitted like a cat’s, the vertical dilation bringing a curiosity out of the alpha as the doctor introduced them.

“Mr. Aizawa, this will be the patient's assigned nurse from here on out. She will be in charge of his basic care when he is well enough to leave. If you have further questions, I’m sure that mate of yours can figure it out for you.” The man said with a tight tone. No doubt that last portion was meant to be an insult for the alpha, but he shrugged it off easily with a roll of his eyes, no longer having the patience for the man. His mate was the best, of course he would get his opinion over anyone else’s. He turned his attention to the omega, nodding his head slightly in greeting. “Hello, I’m Yui Kadai. But you can just call me Yui.” She said, her mask pulling at the sides as she smiled, her eyes scrunching closed while she greeted the alpha.

“Aizawa. Now,” He said without much desire to continue with the pleasantries. “Will you be the one to help Deku get cleaned up?” He had been standing around, watching the omega- who was basically locked in solitary- while the hospital staff apparently would rather shove their thumbs up their asses instead of doing their job.

“Yes, sir.” Yui replied before turning to the doctor that watched the two of them closely. “If I have any issues, I will be sure to page you Dr. Kyudai.” The man nodded and with a huff he turned and left with nothing but a quick “Be sure to do that” thrown over his shoulder.

“Alright. Mr. Aizawa-san, do you know if Deku has any allergies or preferences when it comes to scents and soap.” She asked on her way to the other side of the hall, she scaned her badge before opening a cabinet filled with different hygiene materials inside.

“No. Use what you have.” He answered with a sigh. He was exhausted and didn’t really know how to go about taking care of the omega. Yet, he just knew, for some reason, that he would be the only advocate for the young man until his family was located.

“Okay. I would invite you in to supervise, but unfortunately with the stress he is currently under I must ask that you stay out here. We aren’t sure how he will react with an alpha being so close to him while he is in heat.” She continued to ramble on as she filled a small caddy with soap, sponges and towels.

“That’s fine. Get him a new pair of clothes as well, the ones he is wearing are filthy now. Also, I would like at least one blanket and pillow to be given to him.” He continued, eyes narrowing the girl who had gotten distracted. There were only a few items in the caddy, but she seemed to be getting lost on a syringe she found. She slowly took off the cap, and looked at the 2 inch needle.

“Did you hear me?” Aizawa snapped, all his patients gone. The girl quickly capped the needle before standing and turning to him. “Yes. Umm, I understand why you are requesting additional items, but I don’t think it will go over very well with Dr.-“

“Don’t worry about him. I am the one responsible for Deku’s care for now, he needs something to nest with.” He interrupted without much care for how rude it was.

“Yes, sir. Please give me a moment.” Yui said, her head bowing slightly as she huffed something under her breath. She turned and practically skipped down the hall, her messy buns swaying slightly as she went.

Aizawa watched her, glaring daggers into her back as he thought over everything. Something wasn’t right with all of this.

Uh. Oh.
