Chapter 29
Hello, Midoryia
Eri had stayed with Izuku for a couple more hours- sleeping peacefully in his nest as the omega played with her white strands until Aizawa had come to take her back to the other safe house. Izuku’s heart clenched as he watched the dark haired alpha carry the pup’s sleeping body out his bedroom door.
Tears streamed down Izuku’s face as he sniffled into a pillow. Each breath filled with the residual scent of the girl, that scent being the only thing bringing him any kind of comfort at the moment.
It had been a few hours since then, the sun well into its descent into the western horizon. Izuku knew it was for the best to have them separated for now. Even if having the pup away from him felt like having his child ripped from his arms. It was what they needed to keep Eri safe. Izuku couldn’t protect her here, it would be easier to fight for her safety from a distance despite how hard it would be keeping himself away for the first time ever.
Izuku took another deep breath, trying to suppress the tears from his eyes. He needed to pull himself together. Emotions didn’t matter in a situation like this, and deep down the omega knew that this was what needed to be done.
But his heart still ached. He could feel his omega struggle as each second passed between protective rage and depressive yearning- his head buried in the pillow Eri had used when she slept.
The only thought that helped was that they would hopefully not be apart for long. Cause if Izuku had any say in this, he would march back to Overhaul and finish what he had failed before. He hated the idea of killing- despised it really- but when it came to that alpha, he would always make an exception to that moral code.
Izuku lifted his head at the sound of a voice on the other side of his door, the reverberation of footsteps getting closer. It only took a second before he realized the movement was coming closer to his room. The omega quickly relaxed his body, forcing his breathing to become deep and slow to imitate sleep as the creek of the wood indicated the door opening.
“-spend some time with your gecko.” Mitsuki’s voice said, her tone much softer than Izuku was used to hearing. Most likely she had realized that the omega was ‘asleep’ and was trying to be respectful.
Izuku was confused by what she said, that was until he heard a faint reply. His ear twitched as he heard a voice on the other end of the phone. It was deeper than the female alpha’s, casual in their reply as the omega mentally tracked Mitsuki’s movement as she walked further into the room.
The omega tensed slightly when Mitsuki brushed a finger over his cheek, moving a curl out of the way from laying on his cheek. The touch was gentle as it hovered over Izuku’s cheek bone, moving slowly so as not to /wake/ him up. Izuku’s omega softened at the gesture, the contact welcomed and appreciated more than he would have originally thought.
“Ya, its just started. Nothing that I can’t fucking handle for now, but I want you to take a look and make sure that things don’t go sideways.” Mitsuki replied to whoever was on the other end of the call, her tone indicating a smile as she seemed to try and keep the snark from her voice. “You know I’m good when it comes to seeing the signs, but fixing them when it’s already started is a whole other thing.”
Izuku wished he knew who she was talking to. He didn’t think the Bakugo’s had a gecko here- that wasn’t something Masura would have allowed with his fear of lizards. The omega half wondered if the couple were pet watching for someone, cause that wouldn’t be surprising since they were able to take in a whole-ass person on a whim- so really a reptile couldn’t be much different for them.
Izuku focused his hearing, trying to pick up on what was being said on the other end of the call. “Whatever, hag. I’ll be over.” The low cadence answered, “Do you or ma need anything?”
Hag, Ma? Was she talking to Kacchan?
Izuku's thoughts thundered as that low gruff replayed in his head over and over. There was no other person who would address the Bakugo’s by such names. Even after years of being away, Izuku could practically hear a younger Kacchan yelling back at his parents with the same verbiage.
Mistuki’s sudden snap into the receiver drew Izuku from his mental spiral, the return of her usual snark a comfort compared to the weird conversation he was allowed to hear.
-“Though make sure to bring the pepper for me too.” Mistuki bit out before hanging up her phone. She huffed out her irritation before sitting at the edge of Izuku’s nest. Her hand resumed playing with that single lock of hair, twirling it aimlessly.
“I know you're not asleep,” She whispered, causing Izuku to tense. “And that’s okay, I don’t mind.” The alpha finished quickly. “I just wanted you to know that the brat will be coming to stay for a few days.”
Izuku remained still, though a frown pulled at the corners of his mouth- not knowing if he should reply or not. It didn’t seem like she was looking for his reaction but wanting to warn him in some way. Which made sense with the history between her son and the omega.
“I'm going to be honest with you Izuku. I’m worried,” Mitsuki paused, taking a deep breath while tugging on his curl subconsciously. “We haven’t been doing enough to help you, and now that everything has become more complicated… I need the brat here as a form of protection.”
Izuku wanted to huff at that. He didn’t need Kacchan protection from someone he was adamant on killing. If anything the hero would get in his way- and he wasn’t too happy with that prospect.
“It’s not because of you-“ Mistuki continued as though she was able to read the omega’s thoughts. “though it is part of it. It’s for Masaru. I don’t want him to get stuck in the middle of a villain and his- “ Mistuki cut off abruptly, her scent hitting Izuku’s nose like a hot breeze. The spice in her scent made his nose twitch, the need to sneeze becoming more prominent with the second breath he took.
Without another second, or indication that she had stopped talking in the middle of a sentence, the female alpha was up off the bed and walking away. “Dinner is almost done.” She said, as if the entire one sided conversation between the two hadn’t even happened.
Izuku walked down the hallway of the house quietly, trying to gain his bearings as the berate of multiple smells filled his nose. The house must have been newly built or recently remodeled within the last couple years with the way the carpet and wood still had a hint of chemical wafting from them. The fumes were a dull ache in the omega’s sinus as he lightly walked through the darkened hallway.
The compilation of scents on top of the chemical helped though, the earthy scent of the Bakugo’s had settled itself into every grain and fiber. Mitsuki’s scent was stronger the closer he got toward the front- down the stairs and toward the dining room of the house- most likely her alpha needing to scent mark their den in an attempt to protect Masaru’s hydrangea scent that was stronger by their room.
It was sweet, Izuku could admit that. Even if he thought that alphas were too controlling and territorial in every matter of life they could be involved in- it was still nice to see that not every alpha was subject to that judgment. Mistuki seemed to respect her mate's presents in their home, his scent fixed in the places he always was without too much influence of the alpha’s. Really the only place where Mistuki’s had completely covered the area with her pheromones was by any entrance, other than that their home had a honey smell of hydrangea.
As Izuku turned the corner into the dining area, he was welcomed with the large dining table already set with a few hot dishes displayed in the center. Izuku frowned, looking up to see Masaru walking in with one last dish- this one rice. His omega huffed in sadness at the other setting the table without him. It was the only job he had been allowed to help with since Mitsuki seemed adamant to do everything else for her mate.
“Oh, Izuku!” Masaru smiled, his docile demeanor ever present. “I know you like to help, but with Katsuki and Shinso coming I couldn’t keep myself from getting everything together.” He clarified like the ever-worried man that he was. Even when Izuku was little, the male omega reminded Izuku a lot like his dam- though less people-pleasing and more self conscious.
“He can still get the tea, Aru.” Mistuki's voice yelled from the other room. “Come in here pup and grab it.”
The brunette gave the green-haired omega a shrug before motioning with his chin for the other to do what his alpha said. Izuku bit his tongue, fighting the smile that wanted to spread across his cheeks at the couple's antics.
“That brat is late!” Mistuki grumbled, turning off the stove and pouring the hot water into the decorative teapot. “ I should bitch at him when he gets here,” She continued before noticing Izuku by her side. “We should both bitch at him.”
Izuku shook his head, an airy laugh slipping through his nose as he set the small lid into place atop the ceramic.
Mitsuki took that as her sign to continue. “He deserves it.” She stated like it was fact. “Damn idiot hasn’t been around in months, barely even texts and will only call his dam on holidays. Selfish bastard. I can’t believe he would act like that, like his own parents don’t even matter. Should beat some sense back into him like I did when he was a pup.”
Izuku frowned, his omega growling at how the alpha ranted about his childhood friend. He couldn’t help himself- even with how hard he bit his tongue- he couldn’t let the alpha next to him berate the blonde like. It reminded him of the many volatile rants he witnessed in his younger years, the number of smacks and insults he had to listen to while Kacchan took it all.
“I’m sure h-he works hard, Auntie.” Izuku whispered, hunching his shoulders tight but still continued. “I don’t know a lot about being a hero, b-but it has to be a lot for him. K-Kacchan spent a lot of time at the f-fights before the raid, that took effort for him to do, to watch without jumping in to stop them.” Izuku couldn’t look at the female alpha, his attention focused toward his feet as he continued to ramble.
”I don’t think it's okay to bad mouth him when he is doing everything he can to rescue people like me and still strive to protect them. Kacchan gets absorbed in his work- like he did when we were little. He hasn’t changed.” Izuku smiled as he thought back to how the younger version of the blonde was.
“Wait! That’s not what I meant,” He stumbled, not wanting the female alpha to make connections with the teenage version of her son. “he has changed- I just meant how passionate he is about being a hero. Kacchan and his partner did so much to make sure that the raid was successful, so many late nights and dangerous obstacles. I only meant that his determination is still what drives him. I’m sure if you spoke to him he would call more, especially when it comes to uncle. He always wanted to make his dam proud when we were little- I’m sure that hasn’t changed.” Izuku continued, lost in his thoughts as his thumb rubbed the handle of the teapot. “Maybe if you texted first? Oh, I guess you would have already tried that, as well as calling since you are his parents. I don’t know what I am saying, just ignore me. I don’t know how you guys are nowadays, you know since I have been gone.”
A sudden thought came to the omega. “Who’s to say you don’t have a bad relationship now though or that Kacchan has purposefully kept low contact. If that is the case Kacchan would have a reason for that. And me telling you to text him wouldn’t be healthy for any boundaries. What am I doing? I’m meddling in someone’s life. I shouldn’t be giving advice or even giving an option when I don’t know anything. I’m sorry, Please just ignore me.”
Izuku gasped loudly in the last sentence, his nerves now a live wire as they hummed with anxiety. He lifted his head, eyes wide as he looked to see if Mitsuki was mad in any way, but was surprised to see that she wasn’t even looking at him. She had a smirk on her face, eyes focused on something by the kitchen entry.
“You haven’t changed either, Izuku.” She said, an almost giddy smile on her face. She patted his shoulder before walking to the doorway. “Good to see you brat!” She huffed out, pulling the blonde hero into her arms and patting him loudly on the back in welcome.
Izuku froze, his eyes now glued to the oven as his anxiety turned to shock at the sudden turn of events.
“Whatever, Hag.” Kacchan replied, though his tone was a bit off. “Where’s Ma?”
“In the dining room. Make sure to complement his cooking.” Mitsuki warned, tone sneering in a silent threat. “Spent forever in here since he knew your boy-toy could be coming.”
“Don’t call him that!” Kacchan snapped before forcing his way through the kitchen and into the dining room with a loud huff.
There was a moment of pause, almost long enough to allow Izuku to finally turn around. Yet his omega pricked with immense interest when a voice he hadn’t heard in weeks spoke.
”Well, I guess I am said boy-toy.” Shinsou sighed with a smirk on his face. “It’s nice to officially meet you Mrs. Bakugo.”
Mistuki laughed, a clap filling the room from their handshake. “Good to meet you too. The brat never lets me tease him so I have to take advantage when I can.”
Shinsou chuckled, “I can’t imagine why, though I’m sure we can team up. He is the same with me too. Always running off before I can enjoy myself.”
“Haaa, sounds just like him. Don’t tempt me though.” The female alpha warned though her voice was happy at the prospect.
“Let me tempt you, I need more entertainment since we have been put on retainer.” Shinso chuckled. “There is only so much Tv we can watch before life gets dull and boring.”
Mistuki laughed loudly. “I knew I would like you. I can think of a few things for you to do… though don’t do them here.” Mistuki hinted, winking at the other alpha. “Are you staying here as well?”
”Yes, if you will have me.” Shinso answered. “Oh, I also brought my cat with us. Couldn’t just leave him behind. I hope that is okay, Katsuki didn’t mention if anyone had allergies.” He informed, his voice turning worried as he tried to remain respectful.
”Na, don’t worry about it. Masaru is obsessed with cats to the point he might kidnap it if you're not careful.” The female alpha said, “I’m not too fond of them, so we don’t have any here. Where is the little guy?”
“We left Nyan in his crate at the front. He is still a kitten so sleeps a lot.” Shinso answered. “We figured he would be good until after dinner before we would have to get out.”
Mistuki nodded in understanding before turning to look at the omega that hadn’t moved an inch. “Hey, Izuku. Get that tea into the dining room so we can chow down. I’m hungry.”
The female's voice prodded Izuku from his stupor, his body moving on instinct as he grabbed the tea pot and turned. He kept his eyes low, not wanting to draw any attention to himself.
“Hello, Midoriya.”
Izuku couldn’t help the shudder that coursed through him- his omega perking at the sound. Emerald eyes flicked up, meeting dark plum. Izuku’s mouth went dry as he stared, not knowing what to do now that he couldn’t be invisible.
Shinso smiled, his head tilting to the side a bit as his eyes looked the omega up and down for a second. “You are looking good.” He said, his tone soft as he met the omega’s eyes again. “You don’t look as tired as you did before. Has being out of the hospital helped?”
Izuku nodded dumbly before registering the question. “Y-yes. The Bakugos have been amazing caretakers. E-especially with uncle's cooking.” He trailed off.
“That's good. I’m glad your recovery hasn’t been too rough, you are doing much better than most would in your place.” Shinso praised, his mouth tugging up at the corner.
“T-thank you.” Izuku whispered, eyes falling down to the teapot in his hands. He didn’t know if what Shinsou had said was true, but it felt nice to hear.
The alpha’s Allspice scent glided to Izuku’s nose, bringing a blush to the omega’s cheeks as he inhaled the smooth scent. He hadn’t realized how much he had craved that it, how much his omega relished and yearned to get closer to it. The beast was basically sprawling out in desperation, purring loudly for Izuku to step closer and shove his nose into the alpha’s chest.
Shinso raised an eyebrow, watching as the little omega blatantly scented the air for his scent. His nose tilted forward to draw in deeper breath while leaning slightly closer to him- not by a lot but enough for the alpha to worry that he would lose his balance. The alpha smiled at the display.
“Do you need help with that?” He asked, wanting to see those emerald eyes again.
Izuku blinked a couple of times, not understanding the question for a moment before his brain finally caught up. He looked up at the hero before setting his gaze on the teapot in his hands. “N-no. I got it. It needs to go into the dining room.”
“Will you show me where to go?” Shinso asked, liking the behavior before him. This was an entirely different side of the omega than what the hero had seen before. The hero wasn’t used to the shy, almost jittery behavior. It was a complete contrast to the headstrong and determined display that he was introduced to in the ring.
Green curles fluttered as Izuku nodded his head quickly. The omega turned on the spot, not looking at the alpha and walked through the second doorway into the dining room without a single word.
Shinso chuckled under his breath as he watched the man walk away at a brisk pace.
Katsuki didn’t know how to react to what he had witnessed. It was already strange to walk into his parents house without immediately getting hounded by his sire, but to also watch as said sire smiled wickedly at him at the same time that Izuku was rambling about him was practically too much for him to handle.
He hadn’t been able to look at the omega for some reason- his weak ass deciding that scurrying into the dining room was a better option. He gave his dam a quick hello, trying to calm the tingles that were raging through his body before said omega was practically sprinting into the room, almost breaking the teapot as he hurriedly set it down and took the farthest seat from everyone.
The room had gained an awkward silence, his dam coaxing Izuku closer since there wasn’t a place setting at that seat Izuku took. Red blossomed on the omega’s cheeks as he finally moved and sat by Masura, his head tilted until his chin was almost touching his chest. The whole thing transpired in less than a few seconds.
Once that entire scene was done Katsuki suddenly couldn’t keep his eyes off the omega. Not when Hitoshi sat by him or as he served himself- his gaze was completely glued and it was driving him crazy.
The blonde kept playing the muttered mess of words that Izuku had said over and over in his head. There was so much to dissect from it, but what stuck out the most was the defense Izuku had taken in Katuski’s stead. That was what the alpha was getting hung up on. The sentiment not even close to what Izuku had last said to him, the obvious hatred and loathing he expressed toward the blonde was nowhere in sight as he muttered on and on to his sire.
And it was all sincere. Izuku hadn’t been saying it to kiss ass, or because Katsuki was there and thus felt obligated- well he was, but Izuku didn’t know that. Izuku had defended Katsuki when he had no reason to.
It warmed that small aching part in the alpha’s chest, the one that had been hurting since the moment he had laid eyes on the omega after almost a decade.
The entire meal was quiet besides the occasional conversations that Shinso would have with the mated couple. Their voices a soft hum in the background as Izuku ate his meal quietly, keeping himself out of any attempts that were made to include him.
He nibbled a bit at his food, not hungry. The two alpha’s presence was a bit much for him. He didn’t know how he felt about what had just happened in the kitchen, involving both heroes.
He wished he had gotten more time to prepare himself for his former bully turned hero came over for dinner. He hadn’t been ready to see the blonde so soon after everything. But really Izuku didn’t think he would have ever been ready. Mitsuki’s gesture had been nice, the heads up more than enough for Izuku not to feel totally blind sided, but at the moment he felt completely overwhelmed.
The overload of emotions he felt in regards to Kacchan’s arrival and then stupid conversation he had with Shinso was hard to unravel and piece together.
Even as he nibbled on a grain of rice, he couldn’t bring himself to look up from his face. Izuku felt embarrassed, scared, and for some reason angry at the two across from him. This was the first time in weeks he had seen them, and it wasn’t because they were busy working. They were on retainer. That new information stung more than it should have, and Izuku didn’t know why when he wasn’t owed anything from either of the alphas.
As everyone got up to clear the table, the clatter of dishes filling the room, Izuku finally chanced a moment to look up. His eyes flickered to Shinso- who was smiling at Masaru as they walked toward the kitchen; hands filled with dishes as they went.
Izuku watched for a moment, taking in the alpha’s appearance. How his hair was pulled into a messy bun at the base of his neck, the way his eyes crinkled as he smiled, the cadence of his voice as he answered something the brunette omega said. He was beautiful, a complete portrait of a man sewn together with the best qualities, something that if Izuku had the talent to paint would make his muse.
When the two disappeared through the doorway, Izuku went back to collecting his plate. Hands moving habitually as he turned his head, eyes glancing around the room until they met red.
Green eyes widened in shock as the omega realized that Kacchan had witnessed him gawking at his partner. The sudden embarrassment painted the omega’s cheeks a deep hue as he tried to fight back the reaction in favor of something more defensive. But nothing came as he continued to look into the eyes of the person he had once trusted so deeply, so easily before it was all shattered.
Even so, those eyes were not looking at him the way Izuku had ever expected. Bright, crimson, molten red; those that had been scorched into his memory from such a young age were looking at him once again. The same shade that he loved as a child. The color that never could be replicated in any other capacity, no matter how long the omega searched over the years.
The intensity those eyes held as they stared back at him- after weeks- were looking at him not in hatred like the omega was used to despite the years of separation, but rather with something else. Something more.
Kacchan’s face was not pulled up into its normal glare. It was relaxed, almost soft as the alpha gazed back at him. His lips weren’t drawn down in a frown but pulled the slightest bit into a content smile, something Izuku had never seen before.
He looked almost happy. Something Izuku didn’t know would ever be directed at him. And yet, despite all the confusing emotions that had been swelling and whipping around in his chest. It all settled when the alpha spoke in a soft, gravelly voice.
”It’s good to see you, Izuku.”
